One Of the BIGGyrlzzz! (From Victorious Living Newsletter - Jan 2010)
Recently, I had the opportunity to see the famed movie, “Precious” starring Hollywood‟s notorious female comedienne/actress now BET‟s late night talk show host Monique as “Mary Jones” and Gabourey Sidibe as „Precious”, a 26-year-old from Brooklyn, NY. I walked in the theatre completely clueless to the plot of the movie, never hearing or seeing a review of the book Push by Sapphire but came solely to enjoy a late night date with my husband and to mainly, support a big girl making it to the big screen. Much to my surprise, I encountered an unforgettable experience with God that I never expected. As the story unfolded before my eyes, I began to hear the Holy Spirit speak so clear, sending an urgent message that, “The time is now!” My personal objective drew me to a spiritual encounter with destiny as I watched the movie. The entire theatre was full of people, laughing, talking, enjoying it‟s debut with the exception of a few seats here and there. I have never felt so “alone” in such a great space because I knew that God had met me there. As we watched in disbelief and mixed emotions, silence filled the arena and towards the end of the movie, I began to have a discussion with God. Without giving the details of the plot, I heard a cry from today‟s society, in particular from young ladies, especially those in sexual abusive surroundings, suffering the effects from poor choices made in their family line.
Sadly enough, Precious was put into a situation where she had to make some choices. Does she stay and endure the continued abuse from her parents or should she leave? Unfortunately, she had to make a desperate break from her surroundings to experience love and acceptance. The ending of the movie left me with questions. My husband and I stood up and I began to look around the theatre as the people filed out into the hallway. There was an eerie silence in the room, some were crying as others were talking among themselves but I am sure the thought-provoking monologue at the very end by Mary left a lasting impression on everyone. It was something you would have to see with your own two eyes. It was very intense and emotional.
The Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit about the souls before me magnified by their blank stares. He said, “ When are you going to help them? The time is NOW!” As I watched the people moving out, I began to ask God to forgive me for my fears and lack of faith in Him and my calling. I began to ask God to help me be courageous to move into what He would have me to do.
Growing up as a tall, big-boned teen, I understood and could relate to this story all too well. Suffering from abusive relationships – physically, sexually as well as mentally, this movie was a reminder of why God gave me the vision for BIGGyrlzzzClub. High school was rough time for me because I was so different from others. Acceptance and love was top priority for me. Instead, I became a subject of ridicule and was targeted by the cruelty of my peers. I found refuge with a few young ladies, who were “big girls” and we affectionately named our crew, the Big Girls. We had a theme song and over the years, we became our own support system. We did each other‟s hair, became huge fans of the One and only Queen Latifah, had many shopping trips to Lane Bryant and Stuarts Plus and found many ways to celebrate us as big girls. My mom encouraged me to wear makeup properly and our trademark became Revlon‟s ™ 14kt gold lipstick and Coach™ was our signature purse of choice. The bonds of sisterhood helped me make it through some of the roughest times in my life. Not always superficial and materialistic, we all suffered from different issues but came together to help one another.
Now that I know God and have a relationship with Him as my Father, I have a renewed purpose as a BIGGyrl. God has changed my focus from that which was shallow and materialistic to that which is spiritual and supernatural. With the same concept of unity and support, BIGGyrlzzzClub was reintroduced as a ministry for spiritual impartation and inner healing. We are continually preparing for the many young ladies, who like Precious, may be victim‟s of low self esteem, abuse and may need character development, mentoring, a listening ear, friends and more. Big is no longer a derogatory statement. Big for us is BEAUTIFUL (Ps 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.) INTELLIGENT (Ps. 32:8 I will give you knowledge, teaching you the way to go; my eye will be your guide.) with GODLY character (2 Timothy 2:22 But keep yourself from those desires of the flesh which are strong when the body is young, and go after righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those whose prayers go up to the Lord from a clean heart.)
Now 6ft tall, thick, big boned, plus sized and adored by God as I am, I am excited about presenting you with the opportunity to become “Precious” in His sight. If God can change me from a broken young lady, bitter and unforgiving to a saved young woman full of purpose and destiny, He can do the same you. Why don‟t you join us? Become one of the BIGGyrlzzz today.

Precious - The Movie
My heart is heavy because this is a serious reality check. Too many young people with this struggle, suffering from the poor choices of their parents. I heard the voice of God so clear. Time to step it up! The world is crying out & it's way past time to stop playing games! The Holy Ghost convicted me so - woo! If you saw that movie, you should've been moved to action.
You will be hearing more from us!

Thoughts....
Our Deepest Fear
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure
around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine we unconsciously give other people permission
to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others"
by Marianne Williamson
